WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Join me for an all day monoprinting on clay workshop where you'll explore the art of monoprinting with decorative slips and craft a stunning large terracotta platter. This hands on creative session is designed for both beginners and experienced artists who would like to learn new techniques. Discover the exciting process of monoprinting, using coloured slips to create unique, one-of-a-kind designs.
You will learn to work expressively, embracing abstract patterns and how to experiment with various colours and layering techniques. Also you will learn how to roll and shape clay slab to form a platter using plaster hump mould.
I will glaze your platter, and it will be ready for pick-up in 3-4 weeks. If you prefer, I can ship it to you for an extra £18.
WHAT IS MONOPRINTING?
Monoprint is a printmaking technique that allows you to create one-of-a-kind prints. Unlike other printmaking methods, monoprinting doesn't produce multiple identical copies. Each monoprint is unique, making it a highly expressive and spontaneous form of art.
In the context of ceramics, monoprinting can be adapted by using decorative slips (colored liquid clay) instead of traditional ink or paint. The process involves applying slips onto a newsprint and then transferring the design onto a slab of clay. This allows you to create unique surface designs on your platter.
Monoprinting is celebrated for its ability to capture the immediacy and dynamism of the creative process, resulting in truly unique and personal works of art.
WHY TO LEARN WITH ME?
I'm excited to share my passion and expertise with you. I hold a Master of Design (MDes) specialising in Ceramics and Visual Research, and I've been immersed in the world of ceramics since 2005, honing my skills intensively, and as a professional designer and maker since 2012. I have designed ceramics for various retail outlets, showcased my work in galleries, and collaborated directly with interior designers. This diverse experience allows me to bring a unique perspective to my workshops, blending artistic expression with practical design applications. With three years of experience as a ceramics demonstrator at the University of Brighton, coupled with leading numerous workshops across Sussex and in my own studio, I bring a wealth of knowledge and practical insights to my teaching. My approach is in-depth yet always informal, fostering a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment. I firmly believe in the power of hands-on practice. In my workshops, you'll learn by doing, exploring techniques and discovering your creative potential through direct experience. Join me and together we'll transform your ideas into beautiful, tangible creations.
